San Lorenzo, January 27.- In 2025, the Amazon Sacred Headwaters Alliance began its work in the territories with great momentum. From the early days of January, Wrays Pérez, Vice President of our Alliance and Territorial Coordinator in Peru, along with Olivia Bisa Tirko, President of the Chapra Nation, and board member of ASHA, embarked on two travel routes through the Datem del Marañón and Alto Amazonas, inLoreto, Peru, with the aim of installing satellite internet connection points powered by photovoltaic energy in various communities. These actions are part of a project to strengthen the governance of the Autonomous Territorial Governments (GTA).

The two travel routes undertaken by the leaders of our Alliance were mapped out as follows: The first route was led by Wrays Pérez, who was responsible for the installation in five (5) communities belonging to the Federation of the Achuar Nation of Peru (FENAP), the Shawi, Shiwilu, Kandoshi, Inka, and Kukama Nations. The second route was led by Olivia Bisa, who coordinated the installation of internet points in four (4) communities of the Chapra Nation. As a result, internet equipment was installed in at least one community for each Autonomous Territorial Government. It is important to note that in the case of the Chapra Nation, the number of communities benefiting is higher, as they had already received internet equipment a year ago thanks to a donation from the National Coordinator for Human Rights (CNDDHH). However, these devices had not been installed earlier due to a lack of resources.

As part of the preparations to receive this service, the GTAs collaboratively and voluntarily built offices to safeguard the equipment and ensure its proper functioning. Additionally, the President of the Kandoshi Nation, Pedro Kuvi, reported the beginning of community construction of an office in the community of Musakarusha.

Wrays Pérez enthusiastically emphasizes the importance of connectivity for the GTA’s on an institutional level, to strengthen internal communication between communities, improve alliances between nations, and demand the Peruvian State to comply with their collective rights.

The communities where the satelliteinternet points were installed according to each route were:

First route led by Wrays Pérez:

– CC.NN. Jeberos, Shiwilu Nation

– CC.NN. Achual Tipishca, Kukama Nation

– CC.NN. Soplin, Inka Nation

– CC.NN. Pueblo Chayahuita, Shawi Nation

– CC.NN. Musacarusha, Kandoshi Nation

Second route, led by Olivia Bisa, included the following Chapra communities:

– CC.NN. Capirona

– CC.NN. Inka Roca

– CC.NN. Unanchay

– CC.NN. Unión Indígena

The Amazon Sacred Headwaters Alliance is firmly convinced that the installation of these connectivity points will be key to strengthening the self-determination processes of the Indigenous nations of Datem del Marañón and Alto Amazonas will serve as a milestone to improve coordination between nations and with our Amazonian alliance.
